Graffiti is a form of art that will never die out. Generation through generation, it just evolves!

It is a form of expression for some, a getaway for others, or maybe it’s the simple face that it goes above all the norms expected from society.

To some, it is the adrenaline that comes with graff that really catches their attention.

Non the less beautiful masterpieces can be seen daily just in L.A. alone.

There is tons of pieces being put up daily and some that are up that contain history behind them.

From New York to Los Angeles, and around the world. Leaving a mark, a name, is what majority of the graff artist have set up as a goal.

Some go beyond just writing in the streets and make a profession out of it!

Steelo Magazine had the opportunity to do this interview with “KALM” from S.K.A. to let you inside the life of an artist. With really a calm nature and humorous responses. We honestly felt privileged to be able to get this interview with this talented artist with a well known name in the graff scene

Something about yourself the average person wouldn’t guess? I’m from Anaheim, California, and I like writing on shit that doesn’t belong to me. Walls, trains, sewage pipes, sinks, YOUR GIRLFRIENDS! HAHAHA. “KALM ONE” ORC SKA SF OFA.

If you had one day left on Earth, what’s left to be discovered? Fuck, If I had one day left I don’t think I’d be worried about discovering anything. I would spend that day reconciling with my loved ones.

What is your first art-making memory as a kid? I remember drawing a tiger when I was in the sixth grade. Whenever I looked at it, I couldn’t believe I had done it! I wish I still had that drawing…..DAMM!

Do you need long periods of time alone, or are you energized by interaction? Both. When I am at home, I like drawing while listening to some “Slayer” or “Psycho Realm”. My boys and I have an occasional black book night and like that we hype each other up!

Is being in the dark with the lights out frightening or comforting? It’s not comforting but it’s not frightening either. I’m more on alert status.

What’s the most non-art involved activity you continually find yourself enjoying? Saturday and Sunday soccer mornings. No time to sleep in while the kids have soccer (laughs).

Have you been to jail? If so, why? If not, why not? HELL NO! over night but nothing serious. I’m not trying to be caged up.

Where do your inspirations come from? FROM MY BOYS, OLD CHOLO ARTWORK, OLD ENGLISH TEXT, AND FANCY ASS CALLIGRAPHY!

What is the single most important thing you did to breakthrough as a career artist? Not caring what people think of my shit, and breaking all the rules in the book (laughs).

Best hustle you ever pulled? I am not a hustler. People talk about,  “I HUSTLE THIS AND HUSTLE THAT”, “I’M GRINDING”. I’m not built like that! 75 percent of the tattoos i’ve done have been for free. 90 percent of my art has been free. I DO IT CUZ I LOVE IT. I’M NOT TRYING TO GET RICH ON SOME SCRIPT OR A CANVAS. I’d rather be rich with friends and family. Which I am!

What excites you? PORN. BIG NALGAS. GORDAS. BIG NALGAS ON GORDAS….HAHAHA.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years? I see myself traveling with my wife. All my kids will be 20+ years old so I should be able to do that. Other than that, hopefully owning my own tattoo shop with my brothers.

If you could have a conversation with one artist, living or dead, who would it be? Hahaha…..It would be with my brother STIGMA. There’s so much shit through that dude’s head, that its hard to capture everything in one night.

Graffiti artists travel a lot, what is the last place you’ve visited? I got kids, and hate staying away from them so I hardly travel. The last places I visited though was San Diego and San Fransisco. SHOUT OUT TO MY S.K.A BOYS ON 32ND STREET AND G SAN DIEGO, FLAKS, TORO.

What is or what are your biggest pet peeves? MUTHAFUCKAS THAT STRAIGHT BITE THE STEEZ AND TRY TO OWN IT!!!

One thing you can’t live without? My kids…ANGEL HEKTOR AND MY SUNSHINE…………..

Words you live by? FOR RIGHT NOW, “FUCK ALL THE GOOD TIMES, JUST REMEMBER THE BAD”

SHOUT OUT TO MY LITTLE BIG BROTHER BIG CHATO! MY BOYS FROM SKA, WE’RE STILL KICKING ASS SINCE 1988, BIG NEER ONE FOR ALL THE WISDOM, PHIB, VERT, UKAI, RTICK, LOYER, ROTEN, ESTE, MY BOY BIG DOWTS, KESOE.
